Health Careers Program Application Process

Step 1: Review Program Minimum Qualifications and Admission Requirements

Applicants should first review the program admissions requirements for the program they are interested in. Each program has different minimum requirements for admission. If an applicant does not meet the minimum requirements, their application will not be considered. Western Suffolk BOCES reserves the right to deny admission based upon failure to meet minimum qualifications and complete admission requirements. Minimum qualifications and admission requirements for each program can be found below:

Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Minimum Qualifications

  • College-level, credit-bearing courses listed below from an accredited college taken within the 10 years prior to acceptance into the program. Candidates must achieve a grade of C or higher in each prerequisite to qualify for acceptance. Non-credit courses do not apply.
    • Anatomy & Physiology I & II
    • General Physics
    • Intermediate Algebra or Statistics
    • English

Admission Requirements

  • Official transcript indicating high school diploma or equivalency
  • Official college transcript
  • Three references from non-family members. Two must be business/work references; one must be an academic or personal reference.
  • Meet all technical standards.
  • Personal interview
  • Test Optional: Candidates may take the pre-entrance examination, the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Successfully passing this exam not guarantee acceptance into the program. For exam preparation and to register for the exam, please visit . Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
    • A score of 50% or higher on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) in the sections of reading, math, and English. Candidates must also complete and submit the science portion of the exam. Successfully scoring a 50% or higher in the reading, math, and English sections of this exam does not guarantee acceptance into the program. For exam preparation and to register for the exam, please visit .

  • Official college transcript (if attended)
  • Three references from non-family members. Two must be business/work references; one must be an academic or personal reference.
  • Satisfactory scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) (see minimum qualifications). Note: Western Suffolk BOCES only accepts TEAS scores from exams taken In-Person and Proctored.
  • Personal interview and writing sample.
  • Proof of citizenship or legal residency.
  • Meet all technical standards.
Radiologic Technology

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited school, preferably including the following courses:
    • Anatomy & Physiology I & II
    • General Psychology
    • English Composition
    • College Math or above
    • Physics
  • Minimum college GPA of C or better (≥ 2.0)
  • A score of 50% or higher on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) in the sections of reading, math, English, and science. Successfully scoring a 50% or higher in all four sections of this exam not guarantee acceptance into the program. For exam preparation and to register for the exam, please visit .   • Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Step 2: Take the TEAS Examination

Applicants must take the Test of Academic Skills (TEAS) exam (if applicable) and send their scores to Western Suffolk BOCES. Western Suffolk BOCES only accepts TEAS scores from exams taken In-Person and Proctored. If the program you are applying to requires the TEAS exam, your application will not be considered until Western Suffolk BOCES has received your TEAS scores. For applications to be considered, applicants must meet the minimum TEAS score required, as outlined by the applicant’s program of interest. More information on TEAS exam requirements can be found above in Step 1.

Step 3: Complete an Admission Application Form

Applicants must complete the Admission Application linked below. Admissions application forms must be submitted via email to admissions@wsboces.org.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

Applicants must submit a non-refundable, $100 application fee. The application fee can be paid by credit card over the phone. Western Suffolk BOCES accepts Visa, Mastercard or Discover. To pay the application fee, please contact the Registrar at 631-261-3600 ext. 275.

Step 5: Begin to Send Official High School and College Transcripts

Applicants must send official high school and college transcripts from all institutions attended. All transcripts must be sent directly from the high school and/or institution(s) attended to Western Suffolk BOCES. Official electronic transcripts must be sent by the sending institution directly via email to admissions@wsboces.org. Sealed, paper-copy transcripts must be mailed to:

Western Suffolk BOCES recommends that applicants contact the Health Careers Office to confirm receipt of official transcripts. The Health Careers Office can be reached via phone at 631-261-3721.

Western Suffolk BOCES does not accept unofficial transcripts.

Step 6:  Interview and Supplemental Application Requirements

After receiving your TEAS scores (if applicable), Admissions Application, and Application Fee, someone from Western Suffolk BOCES will contact you to schedule an interview. You will also be sent supplemental application requirements, as applicable to your program of interest.

Step 7: Financial Aid

Title IV funding and financial aid is available to those who qualify. For more information, please visit our Financial Aid page

Step 8: Tuition Deposit

Upon acceptance, students may secure their seat in the program by submitting a $2,000 tuition deposit ($2,500 for Diagnostic Medical Sonography). Students may pay their deposit by contacting the Bursar at 631-261-360 ext. 314.

Step 9: Registration and New Student Orientation

Students are required to attend registration and New Student Orientation. Students will be notified of the date and time of registration and New Student Orientation in their acceptance letter.
